Prudential Locations Foundation Launches 1st Annual “My Happy Home” Calendar Contest

HONOLULU (October 10, 2006) – Prudential Locations Foundation recently invited youth across Oahu – from public schools, private schools, charter schools, home schools and youth groups – to draw their idea of “a happy home” and enter it in the first annual My Happy Home Calendar Contest.

The contest awards 12 children with up to $125 and publishes the winning drawings in a 2007 calendar to be distributed by Prudential Locations Foundation. Drawings are voted on by the public to determine which ones will illustrate a month in the calendar.

More than 3,000 drawings have been entered, and the 36 semi-finalists are now on display for public voting through October 13 near Payless Shoes and ASB at Pearlridge Mall- Uptown.

“We were thrilled to get such a positive response and receive so many entries from students all across the island” said Mary Edu, chairperson of the calendar contest for Prudential Locations Foundation. “We wanted to use the contest as a way to help teachers get to know their children on a more personal level by understanding what is important to the students in their home lives.”

A panel of Prudential Locations Agents judged the 3,000 entries and – with considerable difficulty -- narrowed them down to only 36 semi-finalists. The entries are divided into three age groups: Kindergarten and 1st grade, grades 2-3, and grades 4-6.

The public is invited to vote on their favorites for inclusion in the calendar. The 12 chosen finalists, four from each age group, will be awarded gift certificates ranging from $125 for the winners to $50 for the 4th place winners.

The teachers of the 12 finalists will also receive $50 gift certificates to go towards their classrooms.

All 36 semi-finalists’ drawings will make it into the Prudential Locations Foundation “My Happy Home” 2007 calendar, although only the 12 finalists will receive their own designated months. The calendar will be distributed by Prudential Locations agents and admin staff. A copy of the calendar along with a Thank you letter will be given to all the teachers who participated in the contest. Notification to the winners will be in writing in mid-October. Presentations will be done at each individual winner’s school in the month of December.

Drawings from the 36 semi-finalists will also be on display November 5th – 12th at Kahala Mall, with the 12 winners distinctly marked.
